If you have asked three gutter companies for a price and gotten three numbers that do not seem to describe the same house, this guide is for you. Gutter installation along the Wasatch Front is priced by the linear foot, and once you know the per-foot rates and what moves them, you can estimate your own home within a few hundred dollars before anyone comes out.
The Short Answer
Seamless aluminum gutters in the Salt Lake area cost $8 to $14 per linear foot installed, which puts a complete system on most homes between $1,800 and $3,800. That includes the gutter, hidden hangers, corners, end caps, outlets, sealant and cleanup. Downspouts are priced separately at $100 to $175 each. Steel runs $14 to $22 per foot and copper $35 to $60.
How The Per-Foot Price Breaks Down
Walk around your house and measure every roof edge that water runs off. Most single-story homes come to 120 to 180 feet; most two-story homes 160 to 250 feet. Multiply by the rate for the size and material you want, add one downspout for every thirty to forty feet of gutter, and you have a working estimate.
- Five-inch seamless aluminum: $8 to $12 per foot. The standard for valley-floor homes with moderate roof pitch.
- Six-inch seamless aluminum: $10 to $14 per foot. Steep roofs, long eaves, bench and mountain lots, metal roofs.
- Galvanized or Galvalume steel: $14 to $22 per foot. Heavy sliding snow, metal roofs, commercial.
- Copper half-round: $35 to $60 per foot. Historic and custom homes.
- Downspouts: $100 to $150 for two-by-three, $125 to $175 for three-by-four, including elbows, straps and an extension or splash block.
Three Sample Homes
A Single-Story Rambler In Murray Or Orem
About 1,500 square feet, 140 feet of gutter, four downspouts. In five-inch aluminum: $1,500 to $2,300. In six-inch: $1,800 to $2,600. Most of these homes are fine in five-inch unless they sit under heavy trees or on the bench.
A Two-Story In Draper, Lehi Or Layton
About 2,500 square feet, 200 feet of gutter, six downspouts. In five-inch aluminum: $2,200 to $3,300. In six-inch: $2,600 to $3,800. On a bench lot or with a steep roof we usually recommend six-inch on the main eaves and five-inch on porches.
A Large Two-Story In Highland, Holladay Or Park City
About 4,000 square feet, 280 feet of gutter, eight downspouts. In five-inch aluminum: $3,000 to $4,600. In six-inch: $3,600 to $5,300. A Park City home that needs six-inch steel with heat tape can run twice the aluminum figure.
What Adds To The Bill
- Removing old gutters: $1 to $2 per foot for tear-off and disposal on a replacement.
- Fascia repair: $8 to $20 per foot, primed and painted, when rot is found behind the old gutters. Common on homes older than about thirty years.
- Gutter guards: $8 to $12 per foot for screen, $18 to $30 for micro-mesh.
- Heat tape: $12 to $25 per foot of cable plus a controller, on ice-prone bench and mountain eaves.
- Underground drainage: $300 to $700 per downspout for a buried line to a pop-up emitter.
- Custom colors: $1 to $2 per foot for coil outside the standard twenty-five colors.
Why Quotes Vary So Much
Two things explain most of the gap between a low bid and a higher one: gauge and hangers. The thinner .027 gauge aluminum is cheaper and dents under a ladder, flexes in wind and creases under ice. Spike-and-ferrule nails are faster to install than hidden screw hangers and work loose in a few Utah winters. A quote that is twenty percent lower is often a quote for .027 gauge on spikes, and that system will be sagging in five years. Ask every bidder what gauge and what hanger they are quoting.
How To Keep The Cost Down
- Choose six-inch only on the runs that need it and five-inch on porches and small sections.
- Add guards only on the eaves under trees.
- Replace rotted fascia now rather than paying for a second visit later.
- Schedule in winter or mid-summer, when crews have more open days.
- Ask about financing and senior, military and first-responder discounts.
What we do not recommend cutting: gauge, hanger type or downspout count. Those three things decide whether the system lasts five winters or twenty-five.
Permits And HOAs
Like-for-like gutter replacement does not require a building permit in Utah cities. HOA communities such as Daybreak, Traverse Mountain, SunCrest and the Park City design-review districts often restrict gutter color; a good installer carries the approved colors and handles the form.
