Stop Cleaning Gutters Without Creating A New Problem

Gutter guards are the most over-sold product in the gutter business, and the most useful one when they are chosen correctly. A guard that is right for oak leaves in Georgia can be wrong for cottonwood fluff in Sandy or pine needles in Park City. Some guards also become an ice shelf in January if they are installed on a north-facing eave without heat tape. We install guards that fit Utah debris and Utah winters, and we tell you when a guard is not worth the money.

SwiftHand Gutters installs stainless micro-mesh guards for homes under cottonwoods, pines and maples, aluminum screen guards for lighter debris and tighter budgets, and heated guards or guard-plus-heat-tape combinations for eaves that ice every winter. Every guard we install is fastened to the gutter, not just laid in, so wind and sliding snow do not pop it loose.

Which Gutter Guard Is Right For Your Home?

Stainless Micro-Mesh

The best all-around choice for Utah. A fine stainless screen over an aluminum frame keeps out cottonwood seed, pine needles, shingle grit and maple keys while letting heavy rain and snowmelt through. Fastened to the front lip and under the shingle or to the fascia. Needs an occasional brush-off; never needs the gutter dug out.

  • Best for: cottonwoods, pines, maples, scrub oak
  • Cost: $18 to $30 per foot installed
  • Warranty: up to lifetime, transferable

Aluminum Screen

A perforated or louvered aluminum panel that keeps out leaves and larger debris. Costs less than micro-mesh and works well where trees are mostly deciduous with large leaves. Smaller seeds and needles can get through, so the gutters still need a light cleaning every year or two.

  • Best for: large leaves, lighter debris, budget-conscious homes
  • Cost: $8 to $15 per foot installed
  • Warranty: 10 to 25 years

Reverse-Curve (Surface Tension)

A solid hood that sends water around a curved nose into the gutter while leaves slide off. Effective on leaves, but in Utah’s freeze-thaw cycle the nose can ice over and heavy rain can overshoot. We install these only in specific situations and will explain why when we recommend against them.

  • Best for: steady, moderate rain and leaf-only debris
  • Cost: $20 to $40 per foot installed
  • Watch out for: overshoot in cloudbursts, icing

Heated Gutter Guards

Micro-mesh guards with a channel for self-regulating heat cable. The cable keeps the guard surface and gutter above freezing so melt water keeps moving instead of building an ice dam at the eave. The right answer for north-facing eaves, bench homes and mountain properties. See heat tape and ice melt.

  • Best for: ice-dam eaves, Park City, Cottonwood Heights, Alpine, Heber
  • Cost: guard price plus $12 to $25 per foot for cable
  • Runs on a thermostat or manual switch

Foam And Brush Inserts

We do not install foam or brush inserts. Foam holds moisture, grows seedlings, and freezes into a plug; brush inserts trap needles and become impossible to clean. Both are sold at big-box stores and both end up on our removal list within a few seasons.

Guards And Heat Tape: Which Goes First?

If your eaves ice every winter, install heat tape before or with your guards, never after. Cable laid on top of a guard does not warm the gutter and becomes a trip hazard for sliding snow. We route cable under micro-mesh or use guards with a built-in channel so the two systems work together.

Gutter Guard Cost In Salt Lake City

Installed guard pricing ranges from about $8 per foot for aluminum screen to $30 per foot for premium stainless micro-mesh, so a home with 160 feet of gutter lands between $1,300 and $4,800. Compare that with two professional cleanings a year at $200 to $400 each over ten years and micro-mesh pays for itself in about five seasons on most homes. We quote guards as a separate line so you can decide run by run; many homeowners guard the tree-side eaves only.

How It Works

How We Fit Gutter Guards To Your Home

01

Look At The Trees And The Eaves

We note the tree species over each run, which eaves ice in winter, and whether the gutters are pitched and hung well enough to guard.

02

Clean And Tune First

Guards go on clean, properly pitched gutters. We clean, reseal and re-hang anything that needs it before the guards are fastened.

03

Fasten, Do Not Lay

Guards are screwed to the front lip and secured at the back so wind and sliding snow cannot dislodge them.

04

Water Test And Warranty

We run water over the guards to confirm flow, then register the manufacturer warranty in your name.

Why SwiftHand

Why Choose SwiftHand For Gutter Guards

We install guards on our own seamless systems and on existing gutters from any installer. Either way, you get a recommendation based on your trees and your eaves, not a one-size pitch.

Matched To Utah Debris

Cottonwood, pine and scrub oak all behave differently. We pick the guard that handles what is actually over your roof.

Ice-Aware Installation

Guards on icing eaves get heat tape routed correctly, so you do not trade a clog for an ice dam.

No High-Pressure Sales

Prices by the foot, run by run. Guard the tree side only if that is all you need.

Manufacturer Warranty Registered

Up to a lifetime transferable no-clog warranty on micro-mesh, registered by us in your name.

FAQ

Gutter Guard Questions

Do gutter guards work with cottonwood fluff?

Micro-mesh does. Screen guards let fine seed through. Cottonwood fluff will sit on top of any guard for a couple of weeks in June and then blow off or wash away.

Guards do not cause ice dams, but on an eave that already ices, a guard gives ice a surface to build on. Heat tape under or through the guard solves it. Attic insulation and ventilation are the long-term fix.

Yes, as long as the gutters are sound, pitched correctly and hung with hidden hangers. We repair first if needed.

Micro-mesh needs an occasional brush-off of the top surface; the gutter itself stays clear. Screen guards need a light cleaning every year or two.

Guards that fasten to the gutter and fascia do not touch the roof. Guards that slide under shingles can affect some warranties; we avoid that style on newer roofs.

Stainless micro-mesh on an aluminum frame lasts as long as the gutters. Plastic screens can become brittle in Utah’s UV within five to eight years, which is why we install metal.

If you have mature trees within 30 feet of the roof, yes. If your lot has no trees and the gutters only collect shingle grit, the money is better spent on heat tape or a maintenance plan.

Micro-mesh guards we install carry manufacturer warranties from 25 years to lifetime, plus our own workmanship warranty on the installation.
