Ice is the Bountiful problem. The bench east of Orchard Drive catches storms off the lake and sits in shade from the mountain through the winter afternoon, so meltwater refreezes at the eave, backs up under shingles and crushes gutters. Six-inch gutters, three-by-four downspouts, .032 gauge aluminum, hangers on close centers and heat tape in the gutter and down every spout are the standard package on the upper streets. Canyon winds out of Mueller Park and Holbrook canyons strap-test the downspouts, so we strap at every elbow.
Trees are the second problem. Bountiful’s older neighborhoods have mature maples, sycamores and fruit trees that fill gutters twice a year, so micro-mesh guards or the maintenance plan come up on most estimates. The age of the housing means fascia repair on many replacements. Downtown and the flatter streets west of Main Street have lighter snow but need extensions to keep roof water away from older foundations.
