When The Roof Needs More Than A Residential Profile

Box gutters are a square or rectangular trough sized to the building rather than to a standard residential coil. They are the right choice for commercial roofs that drain large areas to a few outlets, for flat and low-slope roofs where water arrives slowly but in volume, and for modern homes where a clean rectangular line fits the design better than crown molding.

SwiftHand Gutters fabricates box gutters in six-inch, seven-inch, eight-inch and custom sizes in heavy-gauge aluminum and galvanized or Galvalume steel, with oversized outlets, three-by-four or four-by-five downspouts and, where needed, overflow scuppers. See commercial gutters for the property-manager and HOA side of the work.

What To Know Before You Choose

Sizing. We size box gutters from the roof area, pitch and the rainfall and snowmelt rates for the site, not from a catalog. A warehouse in West Valley and a modern home in Park City get different profiles and outlet counts.

Hangers and supports. Box gutters are heavier and carry more water, so they hang on straps or brackets on close centers and on steel where snow load is extreme.

Built-in box gutters. Some older commercial and historic buildings have box gutters built into the roof edge behind a parapet or cornice. We reline and repair those with new metal or membrane and correct the drainage rather than replacing the architecture.

Pricing

Box gutters are quoted per project after a site visit, typically $15 to $30 per linear foot installed depending on size, material and access. Lift or scaffold access on taller buildings is a separate line.

Compare the rest of the family: K-style, half-round, box and fascia gutters, five-inch vs six-inch, aluminum, steel and copper, and gutter colors. Or start at the gutter types overview.

Yes. We reline and reseal built-in gutters and correct outlets and overflow so they drain without replacing the cornice.

On shaded or north-facing commercial roofs along the Wasatch Front, often yes. We install commercial-grade heat cable in box gutters and downspouts.

Around tenant hours and weather, with lift access arranged in advance. See the commercial gutters page for property-manager details.
